First Day of Summer

Today June 20th 2008 is the first day of Summer for the Northern hemisphere, apparently the longest day of the year. That’s because the red giant, SUN reaches its northern most point of the Earth’s sky. Phoenix, Arizona has already started having its heat wave for the past 2 weeks now, with temperatures hovering around 110s.

While Summer officially starts today, Wednesday June 18th 2008 witnessed the full moon day of the month. My wife was showing me as to how big and yellowish moon was glowing that night. Whats special about this full moon is that, the moon rose close to its southernmost point of the year. The following picture was taken by Astronomer Ayiomamitis in Greece.
